"Studying abroad really does enhance your degree and career prospects!"

At the School of Veterinary Science (SVS), University of Queensland, international students have the opportunity to study Veterinary Science in a cutting-edge teaching and learning environment that accommodates and welcomes international students. UQ SVS views international students as an essential part of the learning environment; enhancing diversity, breadth of vision, and the global relevance of our program offerings. Having gained the full suite of international accreditation standards (Australasian Veterinary Boards Council, Royal (UK & Europe) College of Veterinary Surgeons, American Veterinary Medical Association) and our global reputation for research excellence, UQ SVS recruits students from over 6 different countries and around 25% of our academic staff have come to SVS from various countries representing Europe, North and South America, Asia and the Middle East, bringing with them exceptional international teaching experience, including overseas training. Your UQ veterinary degree will have accreditation with:

  • Australasian Veterinary Boards Council which allows UQ veterinary graduates to practice in all Australian states and in New Zealand;

  • Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, leading to registration of UQ veterinary graduates in United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong and elsewhere; and

  • American Veterinary Medicine Association (AVMA), making UQ veterinary graduates eligible to sit the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (a pre-requisite for any veterinarian who seeks to practice in North America).

The School of Veterinary Science is located on the Gatton Campus of the University of Queensland. This campus represents Queensland’s premier hub for animal and agricultural training and is 100 km west of Brisbane, Queensland’s capital city and a major national and international transport hub .The veterinary teaching facilities on the Gatton Campus were built in 2010 and are among the best in the Southern Hemisphere. The University of Queensland Gatton campus provides access to all animal species and clinics and teaching facilities are located at the one site (i.e. there is no need to switch between campuses as at some other universities).

Approximately 24% of students in each year of the program are international students, hailing from a diverse range of home countries. Modern veterinary practice must have a global perspective, and the BVSc (Hons) curriculum has been designed to offer internationally aligned content and methods of teaching, preparing students for professional roles in whichever region they choose.

UQ and the School of Veterinary Science demonstrate their excellence in a number of ways, not least being highly ranked on global tertiary education quality indicators. The latest QS Global Employability Ranking placed UQ within the top 5 universities in Australia, and within the top 60 internationally, with respect to employability of its graduates. University of Queensland graduates in the Bachelor of Veterinary Science(Hons) are able to work in the UK, US, Canada, New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa in addition, of course, to Australia.
