Accreditation

The School of Veterinary Science has full accreditation with the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC), the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA COE).

In September 2018 the School was visited by a combined site-visit team representing the AVBC, RCVS and AVMA COE to conduct a routine site visit normally scheduled at seven year intervals. In early 2019, the respective bodies have approved renewal of accreditation of the School of Veterinary Science. The School will now move into an annual reporting process with each of the accrediting bodies to maintain our accreditation status until the next scheduled site visit (planned for 2025).

The School’s accreditation status entitles UQ graduates to practice in many countries around the world.

AVBC accreditation status through the Veterinary Schools Accreditation Advisory Committee (VSAAC), entitles UQ veterinary graduates to be eligible for registration as a veterinary surgeon in each state and territory in Australia, and in New Zealand.

RCVS accreditation ensures that UQ veterinary science graduates are eligible to be registered to practise veterinary medicine in the UK, and countries in Asia that accept degrees recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons eg Hong Kong and Singapore.

AVMA accreditation means that UQ veterinary science graduates are eligible to sit the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination – a prerequisite for any veterinarian seeking to practise in the United States of American and Canada.

The AVBC, AVA and VSANZ have developed a joint letter for employers in support of 2020 graduates.
