For decades, the School of Veterinary Science at The University of Queensland has been bringing together people with a passion for animals, science and making a difference.
Since welcoming its first students in 1936, the School has grown from humble beginnings into one of Australia's leading veterinary schools. Across generations, thousands of students, academics, clinicians, researchers, support staff and alumni have contributed to a remarkable story of learning, discovery and service.
As we celebrate this special milestone, we honour not only the achievements of the School, but the people and relationships that have shaped it. The friendships formed in lecture theatres, the mentors who inspired future careers, the special challenge of placement, the unforgettable patients, and the shared commitment to animal health and a profession have become part of the School's rich history.

Looking back together
The story of Veterinary Science at UQ spans 3 campuses and countless memories. From Yeerongpilly, where the School first opened its doors in 1936, to St Lucia and later the move to purpose-built facilities at Gatton, generations of students and staff have helped build a proud tradition of excellence in veterinary education, research and clinical care.
Over 9 decades, UQ veterinarians have cared for animals in cities and rural communities, advanced knowledge through research, supported industries and biosecurity efforts, and improved the lives of both animals and people around the world. Yet at its heart, the School has always been about community: people coming together with a shared love of animals and a desire to make a positive impact.

Support veterinary science students in placement
Placements are vital to student learning and their preparation for veterinary practice. Sadly, financial pressures sometimes stand in the way of students getting the most from their placement experience. Giving to support students in placement means removing financial barriers so that tomorrow’s veterinarians can focus on their studies, their learning and on one day giving back to the communities they will live and practice in.
Placement poverty is real – and is often heightened when students do practicums in rural and regional communities. The realities of financial hardship can make students reluctant to step too far outside their comfort zone or too far from home.
With your help, students can stop worrying about making ends meet and put their minds to becoming the very best veterinarians they can be, exploring both city and country pathways.
