CE Seminar- Perioperative Analgesia in Small Animals

24 October 2017
6:30pm to 9:30pm
Building 8255, Gatton Campus

Ideas for Perioperative Analgesia in Small Animals

Pain management in clinical practice can prove to be both challenging and rewarding. In this day and age of multi-modal analgesia and a myriad of analgesic techniques, there are many ways of managing pain in our veterinary patients. As this century comes of age we will see the implementation of local anaesthetic and analgesic techniques. Veterinarians are duty bound to have an understanding of pain physiology, analgesic drug pharmacology and be able to recognise pain and treat it appropriately. This seminar will briefly review pain physiology, cover some local anaesthetic drug pharmacology and then focus on local and regional blocks as ideas for managing small animal pain in forelimb and hind limb orthopaedic surgery.

This seminar will be presented by Dr Margie McEwen BVSc DACVAA MANZCVS, Senior Lecturer in Anaesthesia and Analgesia with the UQ School of Veterinary Science.
