Why Study for a Higher Degree by Research?
A higher degree by research involves in-depth study and commitment to understand existing information or to develop and analyse new data or ideas. The processes and research you conduct will result in new knowledge you can conribute to this field of thought.
The following higher degrees by research are available:
- Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
- Doctor of Veterinary Clinical Science (DVClinSc)
For the MPhil and PhD, fields of study in our School include many research areas such as infectious diseases and pathology, companion animal health, genetics and reproduction, equine medicine and surgery, livestock animal health and production, wildlife health and ecology (includes marine mammal health & acoustics), animal ethics and welfare, veterinary pharmacology & therapeutics, applied epidemiology, veterinary education and professional studies. Please visit our Research Areas to further explore potential thesis topics and supervision.
The DVClinSc program will provide a learning framework for UQ's veterinary residency program that will prepare veterinarians to sit specialist qualification examinations. Candidates will undertake clinical work in an approved veterinary diagnostic laboratory (for pathology residents) or referral hospital to develop their skills to specialist level. This will form the bulk of the requirements for the coursework component of the training program. The research component will provide a research-training foundation for graduates seeking career paths as clinical academics using an evidence-based medicine foundation.
Please complete the Expression of interest form and email it to hdr.vet@enquire.uq.edu.au You will also need to prepare a research proposal for approval by your prospective thesis supervisors prior to submitting an application for admission and scholarship.
